Joana Vasconcelos' 'Wedding Cake' for the Rothschild Foundation opened officialy on the 15 June, with the presence of the President of the Portuguese Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and as part of the celebration of the 650th anniversary of the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance. The event was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs João Cravinho, the Portuguese Ambassador in the United Kingdom Nuno Brito and several personalities within English culture.

The monumental sculpture, measuring 12 meters high and 15 meters wide, will be permanently installed in Waddesdon, accessible to the public by appointment. Based on a structure provided by Metal Azóia and covered, inside and out, by traditional tiles and ceramic figures from the centenary factory of Viúva Lamego; the most ambitious project by the Portuguese visual artist – which establishes the intersection between architecture and pastry – is “a temple to love”.
