Valkyrie Marina Rinaldi is Joana Vasconcelos’s response to Marina Rinaldi’s challenge to conceive a new work inspired by the fashion brand’s creations. The piece belongs to the Valkyries series, an important nucleus of the artist’s work that distinguishes itself for its surprising textile organic forms, exhibited suspended in space.
The Valkyries are inspired by the homonymous feminine characters of Norse mythology who weaved the destiny of men and overflew the battlefields to select the bravest and most valiant warriors. Suspended from the ceiling, the unusual bodies of Vasconcelos’s Valkyries appear to also overfly in prospection of noble material for divine tasks.
Valkyrie Marina Rinaldi gravitates suspended in clear harmony with the architecture and environment that welcomes it. Tentacular, the work extends itself from the central body until the ground. The explosion of varied colours and textures patent in the work, result from the appropriation of the Marina Rinaldi Spring-Summer 2015 Collection and from the combination of various textiles and artisanal techniques. A magical deed seems to give life to the collection of the brand’s creations, transforming them into a unique and defying work. Fashion is transformed into art.
