In 2025, Joana Vasconcelos took part in Engagés, presented at the Villa Datris – Fondation pour la Sculpture Contemporaine, as part of the institution’s 15th exhibition dedicated exclusively to sculpture by women. Curated by Danièle Marcovici and Stéphane Baumet, the exhibition brought together around 60 sculptors from different generations, both French and international. The exhibition addressed key contemporary issues such as human rights, gender equality, the fight against racism and opposition to authoritarianism, highlighting the political and social engagement of the participating artists. Engagés continued Villa Datris’ long-standing commitment, initiated in 2013, to asserting sculpture by women as a vital field within art history, countering decades of marginalisation and invisibility.
