Celebrating the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões and marking the 12 March 1572 when the first edition of Os Lusíadas was published, the MAAT presents the Of Love and Glory in Camões, a concert by Rui de Luna as part of the Plug-in exhibition by Joana Vasconcelos. Bringing together the words of the poet spoken by actress Natália Luiza, the music of Rui de Luna on the piano - accompanied by Marcos Lázaro on the violin and Ivo Santos on percussion -, and the visual contribution of Joana Vasconcelos, the immersive show takes place under the Valkyrie Octopus (2015), one of Joana Vasconcelos' monumental sculptures, initially created for the MGM space in Macau, a city the Portuguese poet developed affinities with and which served as his inspiration.
Premiered on 10 June 2023 at the Jerónimos Monastery, Of Love and Glory in Camões also played at the Meridional Theatre in January this year. Specially created by Rui de Luna from selected texts from Os Lusíadas to commemorate the fifth centenary of the birth of the greatest name in Portuguese literature, this concert offers a surprising Camonian journey that allows you to (re)discover the lyric of the poet who transcended geographical borders and best sang the Lusitanian soul.
