Joana Vasconcelos' artwork Mise is now part of the Centre Pompidou collection, one of the world's most prestigious modern and contemporary art museums. This iconic piece by the Portuguese artist will be featured in the exhibition "Énormément Bizarre" taking place from March 26 to June 30, 2025, in Paris. The exhibition is organized as part of the donation of the Jean Chatelus collection to the Centre Pompidou by the Fondation Antoine de Galbert, bringing together a remarkable selection of nearly four hundred works. Among sculptures, installations, paintings, photographs, the exhibition reflects the diversity and curiosity that guided the formation of this singular collection.
The Jean Chatelus collection stands out for its unconventional nature, featuring works by artists such as Cindy Sherman, Mike Kelley, Christian Boltanski, Yayoi Kusama, Michel Journiac, Daniel Spoerri, Robert Filliou, Nam June Paik, and Andres Serrano. Joana Vasconcelos joins this distinguished group with her artwork Mise, exemplifying her ability to transform everyday objects into powerful artistic expressions. With an anachronistic approach and free associations, "Énormément Bizarre" pays tribute to the visionary spirit of Jean Chatelus. Parts of his residence have been reconstructed to allow the public to immerse themselves in the collector's unique atmosphere, while other areas have been presented in a museological manner that respects his distinctive perspective. This new inclusion of Joana Vasconcelos' work in the Centre Pompidou collection highlights the international recognition of her work and reinforces her position in the contemporary art scene.
Mise can be visited at the exhibition "Énormément bizarre" from March 26 to June 30, 2025, at the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
