The exhibition will bring a selection of large-scale artworks to both to the spaces of the Gallery of Statues and Paintings and the Regal Medici, and will be on view from 4 October 2023 – 4 January 2024.

The ‘Uffizi Galleries’ series of exhibitions dedicated to women artists, which began in 2016, continues this year with a group of large installations created specifically for the Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti by Joana Vasconcelos, one of the most internationally renowed contemporary artists” announces Eike Schmidt, Director of the Uffizi Galleries – “We are very proud to welcome Vasconcelos’ first ever exhibition in our city.”

As a contemporary artist, I would never have dreamt of exhibiting in the same museum where the artworks by Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo or Caravaggio are on display. This invitation by the Director of the Uffizi is a huge honor. Regardless of whether we talk about living or dead artists, what matters most is the dialogue generated between the artworks. The building itself provides the frame for the artistic production no matter what century it comes from. This place has the magical power to cancel time, like a time machine. The most wonderful thing about the Uffizi is the history of art.
