The artworks from the series Candlesticks, are composed of two twin vertical structures which result from the accumulation of thousands of wine bottles, illuminated from the inside. Both monumental structures subvert the domestic scale of the referenced objects – candlesticks, or bottle holders – acquiring architectural form and dimension.
These pieces allude to Duchamp’s first Ready-made – Porte-Bouteilles, 1914 – and reports to the pleasures of the table and to the processes of national identity associated to gastronomy. The first work of the series Candlesticks – Message in a Bottle, 2006 – was presented in Japan and is constituted by sake bottles: Blue Champagne – was conceived with champagne bottles for the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, where the artist presented a major solo show in 2012, then Lafite - made with Château Lafite wine bottles for Waddedon Manor, in England.
