Joana Vasconcelos’ Aspirin Sofa on view in SCULPTURE. TRANSMUTATION

Artist Joana Vasconcelos is participating in the group exhibition SCULPTURE. TRANSMUTATION, on view at the Galeria do Parque in Vila Nova da Barquinha from 9 June to 5 September 2026. Curated by Margarida Almeida Chantre, Head of the Portuguese Art Collection at the EDP Foundation, the exhibition brings together a selection of works from the EDP Foundation Art Collection.

Established in 2000, the EDP Foundation Art Collection now comprises more than 2,500 works by over 345 artists, making it one of the most significant private collections of contemporary Portuguese art. Taking the concept of transmutation as its point of departure, the exhibition reflects on contemporary sculpture as an artistic practice in a constant state of transformation. Through a selection of works spanning different generations and artistic languages, it explores processes of change in matter, form and meaning, challenging the traditional notion of sculpture as a fixed and permanent object. Joana Vasconcelos’ work Aspirin Sofa, included in the exhibition, engages with the theme of transformation through the recontextualisation of everyday objects—an approach that has become a defining feature of the artist’s practice.

Artists featured in the exhibition include Maria José Oliveira, João Vieira, Vhils, Vasco Costa, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Manuel Baptista, João Ferro Martins, Joana Vasconcelos, Rodrigo Oliveira, Bruno Cidra, Claire de Santa Coloma and Carlos Bunga.
