Flamboyant
Joana Vasconcelos en el Palacio de Liria
14/02/2025>31/07/2025

Joana Vasconcelos' exhibition at the Liria Palace is a unique project in which the Lisbon-born artist, one of the most outstanding creators in the contemporary art scene, will intervene in the salons and gardens of the Liria Palace, blending with one of the most important private historical-artistic collections in the world, which includes works by artists such as Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, Titian, and Murillo. It is the first time she has brought her works to a grand lived palace, unlike other interventions in historic spaces such as the Palace of Versailles. The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Liria Palace from 14 February and will also offer a unique opportunity to explore lesser-known corners, such as the stunning gardens—usually closed to the public—where visitors will be able to marvel at some of the artist's most iconic works. Download the Press Kit.

I am honoured to present my work at the Liria Palace, a site of profound historical and cultural significance, housing one of the world's most distinguished private art collections. Flamboyant seeks to establish a dialogue between contemporary art and the palace's enduring legacy, creating an interplay between past and present that reflects the dynamic evolution of culture. My installations engage with this duality, offering new perspectives on its architecture, interiors, and gardens. In bridging the classic with the contemporary, this exhibition aspires to honour the Liria Palace's unique role as both a guardian of history and a space of cultural reinvention.
